The 2017 SAGES Annual Meeting in Houston, TX

Dear Colleagues

On behalf of SAGES President, Dr. Daniel J. Scott, and the Program Committee, we would like to invite you to attend the 2017 SAGES Annual Meeting in Houston, TX, the fourth-largest city in the United States, also known as “Space City”, “The Energy Capital of the World”, and importantly, the site of the largest medical center in the world, the “Texas Medical Center”.

This year’s SAGES Meeting will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center from March 22-25. The meeting is designed to encourage communication and collaboration and to make room for the voices of SAGES members and meeting attendees at large. We invite all of you to come to the meeting to exchange with colleagues, learn from your peers and take home a few pearls that will improve how you care for your surgical patients. Most importantly, we hope that you have FUN, because, in addition to the high quality science, innovative technology and world-renowned expertise, we really know how to have a good time!!

The most popular topics that will be highlighted at the meeting are foregut, colorectal, hernia, bariatric, minimally invasive liver and pancreas surgery as well as flexible endoscopy. Highlights include: Postgraduate (PG) courses, including: How to write and get your Scientific Manuscript Published, Robotic Hernia Surgery, Minimally Invasive Liver Surgery, a FUSE course, and SMART Beyond Colorectal with a SMART workshop designed for the entire surgical team. The hands-on courses include Endolumenal Bariatrics, Robotic Hernia Surgery, and the innovative ADOPT Colon course.

Back this year is the SAGES Masters Series, in-depth presentations offered by master surgeons, detailing techniques that will help surgeons take their practice to the next level.

New things to look out for are: “Your Sessions” which will showcase lecture topics selected by the membership at large and will include presentations on issues that are relevant to you and your current practice. “Video Face-Off” sessions will be reviewing pre-recorded videos where surgeons explain what they are doing and why. The “Devil is in the Details” are additional video sessions that will review common advanced procedures in depth so that you can really learn tips and tricks from experts. “Let’s do Lunch” will offer opportunity to have lunch with your peers and find out in an open discussion, what they are doing in your area of interest.

Multiple sessions in collaboration with several local and international surgical societies will enhance the 2017 meeting by bringing together expertise from SAGES and each of these societies and discuss subjects that are of common interest to SAGES members.

As with all SAGES technology-friendly meetings, the conference features electronic media to allow you to personalize your experience. A SAGES Meeting App will provide access to meeting content via your handheld devices, and e-mails and tweets during the meeting will keep attendees informed. Of course, no SAGES meeting would be complete without the Friday night Main Event and Sing-off.

If you go to just one surgical meeting in 2017, this is the one! We look forward to seeing you in Houston this March.
